About JEE INSPIRE
JEE INSPIRE is the latest handmade
jewelry-making school in Singapore, emphasizing in highly unique courses
in handmade jewelry creation and jewelry entrepreneurship. With every
novice or budding jewelry designer, JEE INSPIRE seeks to educate,
encourage and inspire the learner to explore his/her innate ability to
create something different as wearable art.
About Jewelry Making
IN JEE INSPIRE, we view jewelry making
more than hobby-craft or passing time. The making process is an art
itself, similar to performing a Japanese tea ceremony or playing the Go
(board game, known as Weiqi in Chinese). Most of JEE Modules in
jewelry making include a buffet setting of materials in over 200 variety
of semi-precious stones, crystals, glass, porcelain in various shapes,
sizes and colors. Every learner is encouraged to choose the material
that appeals the most to him/her and create a desired piece using the
new methods taught during lesson.
About the Founders
The founders are a husband-wife team,
K.C. and Wei Leng. Prior to teaching jewelry making, K.C. is a
professional choreographer in performing arts and dance for 18 years.
As part of his job, K.C. needed to find suitable accessories for the
performances. However, most of the time, he could not find elaborate and
yet light accessories for the dancers. So he had to make most of them
instead. His creations turned out to be very innovate and beautiful that
the dancers wanted to buy from him after the last performance had ended.
Unlike KC with artistic background, Wei
Leng was a graduate from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore (NTU).
She worked as a system analyst for 3 years before deciding a career
switch was needed to achieve true job satisfaction. Then she tried
outdoor sales, bridal make-up artist and beautician. Gradually,
she realized her passion has all along being in accessories. Since
secondary school days, she would spent hours looking at every
interesting pieces, both in costume and fine jewelry. Upon realization,
she started making and selling her own jewelry creations and to her
surprise, it works!
As a common trait of Singaporean's
ability to adapt and reinvent, K.C and Wei Leng have used various
methods of jewelry making from Japan, Australia, Thailand and Taiwan and
incorporated the techniques in the courses.
